Identify the object, or the person that you use to fill the void in your life. We all have gone through this stage at least once in our life as believers or non believers. Are drugs your getaway from reality? Are you involved in sexual activity before marriage in hopes that it will bring you comfort and everlasting love? Do you love listening to negative music that isn’t fulfilling your spirit? Or are you pretending to be friends with someone just so you won’t be alone? The list goes on, now take the time to be real with yourself, this is another self reflection blog.
I’ve noticed boredom can be a scary place for believers as well. How so you may ask? What are you fulfilling in your time of boredom? Now understand this is not referring to everyone, we all have a different mindset when we are bored. But, let’s reflect, what do you usually do when you are bored?
1. Do you entertain your thoughts with negativity? Here is an encouraging scripture 2 Corinthians 10:5 “We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” This scripture gives us the authority to hold captive every thought that isn’t pleasing God.
2. Do you gossip? Many Believers take advantage of gossiping, thinking it isn’t really a sin. Question, do you pray for that person more than you trash talk about them? There are over 20 verses about gossiping in the book of Proverbs, Ephesians, Romans, Titus and the list goes on. Do you see the importance about not gossiping? Use your mouth to uplift that person, not condemn them. We are supposed to be a reflection of Christ, that means with our words, thoughts, and actions. Ephesians 4:29 “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.”
3. Do you go out looking for trouble without even realizing it? Then when you find yourself in a situation that is bigger than you expected and you wonder how did I get here? Do you see where I am going with this? We are so dependent on the little things to fulfill us. Especially when we’re bored, it can be an issue, because what we do to fulfill our boredom is only temporary; same as the things or people we obsess with to fill us.
All during my teenage years, I would love the attention I would get from guys. To hear them telling me “Minette you’re so beautiful, I would love for you to be my girl, you are one of a kind” Blah Blah and Blah. I’ve heard it all, yet it satisfied my day and completed me .. so I thought. Without hearing a compliment I started to feel insecure about how my hair looked and lonely if I wasn’t talking to a guy. It’s funny how I only knew I was beautiful when I was in a relationship, but, when I was single I didn’t feel as attractive. Now, let’s make this long story short because we all know what happens when God comes into your life and fills all your voids; I’ve become confident in myself and I felt complete without needing a guy’s voice in my ears telling me I am beautiful because now I know I am.
In conclusion, and let me be blunt with you all.
I’VE STOPPED DEPENDING ON MEN GIVING ME ATTENTION TO MAKE ME FEEL GOOD ABOUT MYSELF, I’VE STOPPED DEPENDING ON A FRIEND TO GIVE ME COMFORT WHENEVER I AM ALONE, I’VE STOPPED DEPENDING ON PORN, I’VE STOPPED DEPENDING ON FOOD, I’VE STOPPED DEPENDING ON MONEY. YET! I STARTED TO DEPEND ON YAHWEH . Asking Him to FILL ME with the Holy Spirit so I won’t have to depend on earthly things, or people to fulfill me. I’ve started to make more room for a man that won’t disappoint me, bring pain and insecurities; but only strength, joy and unconditional love and his name is Jesus. And his nam
